West Pokot is the homeland of the Pokot people, one of the fifteen Kalenjin communities. The county runs from the cool highlands of Kapenguria and Chepareria down to the semi arid country of Sigor and the Turkwel gorge.
Pokot life is layered between pastoralism on the lowlands and settled farming on the highlands. Both are held together by a strong council of elders and by customary institutions that continue to shape land, pasture, and peace.
The Foundation works with the Pokot Council of Elders, with women's groups in Sigor and Alale, and with schools across the county on land, peace, and education.
Elders and customary law
Support for the Pokot Council of Elders and customary land councils.
Peace across borders
Elder work with Turkana and Karamoja neighbours along the northern frontier.
Girls and schools
Bursaries and safe school programmes for girls across the county.
