Baringo is the county of four Kalenjin communities of the ridge, together with the Endorois of Lake Bogoria. The Arror carry the northern hills around Kabartonjo, the Samor the eastern slopes above the Kerio, and the Lembus the great forest above Eldama Ravine. The Endorois hold the country around Lake Bogoria as their ancestral homeland.
It is one of the most ecologically layered counties in Kenya, running from the arid Kerio floor to the cold cedar forests of the Arror, Samor, and Lembus highlands. The escarpment road from Iten to Kabarnet is one of the great overland journeys of the Rift.
The Foundation works closely with the Arror, Samor, Lembus, and Endorois councils of elders, and with community trusts that hold customary land. Programmes here concentrate on land, water, honey enterprise, and the schooling of children in remote wards.
