Nyandarua is the smallest of the six county profiles the Foundation currently maintains, but a significant one. Kalenjin households here farm the cold dairy country of the Aberdare edge, growing potatoes and pyrethrum and running some of the most productive smallholder dairies in Kenya.
The community here is largely a settler community, drawn from Kipsigis, Nandi, Arror, and Samor roots. Family ties reach back to Kericho, Nandi, and Baringo, and the county sends many students to schools in those home counties.
Foundation work in Nyandarua is quiet and steady. It focuses on dairy cooperatives, on schools, and on keeping the connections to home counties alive through elder visits and heritage events.
Dairy cooperatives
Capacity work with smallholder dairy societies across Kinangop and Ol Joro Orok.
Schools and bursaries
Support for secondary schools serving the Kalenjin households of the Aberdare edge.
Ties to home counties
Elder visits and heritage events that keep Nyandarua households connected to Kericho, Nandi, and Baringo.
