One Nation United Under God

Nandi

One finger cannot kill a louse.

Homeland
The high plateaux north of the Mau, running from Kapsabet to Nandi Hills.
Counties
Nandi · Uasin Gishu · Kakamega
Tongue
Nandi, close kin to Kipsigis and central to the classical Kalenjin canon.
Livelihood
Tea, maize, dairy, and a proud lineage of middle and long distance runners.

The Nandi are the community that carried the covenant through the long resistance of the nineteenth century and gave the Kalenjin nation much of its warrior memory.

Nandi country is a plateau of tea and forest, cut by the Yala and the Kingwal, and it has raised generation after generation of teachers, athletes and public servants.

The ten clans of the Nandi still keep the old order of counsel and of age set, and the community remains one of the great pillars of the wider Kalenjin nation.
