Lembus

A forest that is guarded feeds the whole country.

Homeland
The forested plateau of Lembus between Eldama Ravine and the Mau.
Counties
Baringo · Nakuru
Tongue
Lembus, close to Arror, Samor and Nandi.
Livelihood
Timber and forest crafts, dairy, and mixed highland farming.

The Lembus keep the forest plateau above Eldama Ravine, a country of tall cedar and podocarpus that has for generations supplied timber to the whole of the Rift.

The five clans of the Lembus, Somek, Murkaptuk, Kamarusoek, Emomiek and Torobek, still hold the old sections of the forest, and the community has long been the quiet guardian of the tree line between the ridges of Baringo and the Mau.

The Foundation recognises the Lembus as a community in their own right, alongside the sister communities of the ridge.
