Keiyo

The road that climbs also carries you home.

Homeland
The Elgeyo escarpment above the Kerio Valley, from Iten to Chepkorio.
Counties
Elgeyo Marakwet
Tongue
Keiyo, sister tongue to Arror, Samor and Marakwet.
Livelihood
Highland farming, dairy, and the world famous running culture of Iten.

The Keiyo hold the great escarpment above the Kerio Valley, a country of red earth roads, thin cold air, and long views into the Rift.

Iten, the capital town of the Keiyo plateau, is known across the world as the Home of Champions and has raised more Olympic and world medallists than any other small town in the world.

Beyond the running, the Keiyo are farmers, teachers, and craftsmen, and their five clans still hold the memory of the country from Kapchemutwa to Kessup.
